✦ Personality Traits
✦ About
Ra is the supreme deity of ancient Egyptian religion, the god of the sun and creator of all life. Each day, he sails his solar barque across the sky, bringing light and warmth to the world. Each night, he travels through the underworld, battling the chaos serpent Apophis to ensure the sun rises again.
As the first god, Ra created himself from the primordial waters of Nun, then spoke all other gods and the world into existence. He is depicted with a falcon head crowned with the sun disk, embodying the life-giving power of the sun itself.
Ra's name means simply "sun," and his influence was so great that he merged with other major gods—becoming Amun-Ra, king of the gods, and Ra-Horakhty, god of the horizon. He represents the eternal cycle of death and rebirth that defined Egyptian cosmology.
✦ Famous Story
Each night, Ra descends into the Duat (underworld) where the chaos serpent Apophis tries to devour him and prevent sunrise. With the help of other gods, particularly Set, Ra defeats Apophis each night, ensuring the sun rises again—symbolizing the eternal triumph of order over chaos.
