About

Thoth is the ibis-headed god of wisdom, writing, magic, and the moon. He is credited with inventing hieroglyphics, creating the calendar, and recording all knowledge in existence. Without Thoth's gift of writing, Egyptian civilization could not exist.

As the divine scribe, Thoth records the verdict of every soul in the Hall of Two Truths, documenting who passes into the afterlife and who is condemned. He also authored the sacred texts containing all magical knowledge, including the legendary Book of Thoth.

Thoth serves as mediator among the gods, using his wisdom and eloquence to resolve disputes. He restored Horus's eye and healed both Horus and Set after their battles. His mastery of magic is second to none, and he taught Isis the spells that allowed her to resurrect Osiris.

Famous Story

Thoth gambled with the Moon and won enough light to create five extra days, allowing Nut to give birth to Osiris, Isis, Set, Nephthys, and Horus the Elder—circumventing Ra's curse that she could bear no children in any month of the year.
