"God of the Underworld, Death, and Resurrection"
✦ Personality Traits
✦ About
Osiris is the god of the dead and ruler of the Egyptian underworld, but he is no god of darkness—he represents the hope of life after death and the promise of resurrection. As the first mummy and first resurrected being, he gave humanity the gift of eternal life.
Originally a great king who civilized Egypt, teaching agriculture and establishing laws, Osiris was murdered by his jealous brother Set. Through the magic of his devoted wife Isis, he was resurrected to rule the afterlife, judging the souls of the dead.
Depicted with green or black skin symbolizing rebirth and fertile soil, Osiris holds the crook and flail of kingship. He judges every soul in the Hall of Two Truths, weighing their hearts against the feather of Ma'at to determine their fate in eternity.
✦ Famous Story
Set trapped Osiris in a golden coffin and threw it into the Nile. Isis searched the world and found it in Byblos, grown into a great tree. But Set found the body again, cut it into fourteen pieces, and scattered them across Egypt. Isis gathered every piece, and with her magic, resurrected Osiris as lord of the afterlife.
