Freyr is the god of fertility, prosperity, sunshine, and peace—the male counterpart to his twin sister Freya. He rules over the realm of Alfheim and is the most beloved of the Vanir gods among humans for the blessings he brings to harvests and herds.
He possesses several magical treasures: the ship Skíðblaðnir that can sail anywhere and fold to fit in a pocket, and the golden boar Gullinbursti that pulls his chariot and shines like the sun.
Freyr's greatest flaw was giving away his magical sword for love of the giantess Gerðr. At Ragnarök, he will face the fire giant Surtr weaponless—a reminder that even the gods cannot escape the consequences of their passions.
