About

Freya is the most renowned of the Norse goddesses, embodying love, beauty, fertility, and also war and death. She rules over the heavenly field of Fólkvangr, where she receives half of all warriors slain in battle—the other half going to Odin's Valhalla.

The most beautiful of all goddesses, Freya possesses the legendary necklace Brísingamen and a cloak of falcon feathers that allows her to transform and fly. She rides a chariot pulled by two cats and is accompanied by a boar named Hildisvíni.

As the goddess of seiðr (magic), Freya taught Odin himself the mystical arts. She weeps tears of red gold for her lost husband Óðr, searching for him across the nine realms.

Famous Story

To obtain the beautiful necklace Brísingamen, Freya spent a night with each of the four dwarven craftsmen who forged it. When Loki told Odin of this, Odin made her start a war between two kings as punishment—for Freya loved battle as much as beauty.
