About

Nut is the goddess of the sky, depicted arching over the earth with her body forming the heavens. Each evening she swallows the sun, and each morning gives birth to it anew—the eternal cycle of night and day.

Her body is covered with stars, and she is mother to Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys. Despite Ra's curse that she could bear children on no day of the year, Thoth won five extra days through gambling, allowing her to give birth.

Nut represents the protective canopy of the sky, the cosmic womb that contains all celestial bodies, and the eternal maternal cycle of death and rebirth.

Famous Story

Ra forbade Nut from giving birth on any day of the year. But Thoth played senet with the Moon and won enough light to create five new days outside the calendar. On these days, Nut gave birth to her five children, changing the course of Egyptian mythology forever.
