About

Geb is the god of the earth, depicted lying beneath the arching sky goddess Nut, his sister-wife from whom he was separated by their father Shu. His laughter causes earthquakes, and his body forms the hills and valleys of the land.

As father of Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys, Geb plays a crucial role in Egyptian mythology's central drama. He is also associated with snakes, which emerge from his earthly body, and with the growth of vegetation.

Geb represents the fertile earth that supports all life, the primordial foundation upon which existence rests, and the divine masculine principle that complements the sky.

Famous Story

Geb and Nut loved each other so deeply they remained locked in embrace. Ra ordered Shu to separate them—Shu lifted Nut to become the sky while Geb remained below as earth. Geb's longing for Nut creates the mountains as he reaches up toward her.
