✦ Personality Traits
✦ About
Susanoo-no-Mikoto is the storm god, ruler of the seas, and a complex figure embodying both destructive chaos and heroic valor. Brother to Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, his temperament is as wild and unpredictable as the storms he commands.
His violent behavior in heaven—destroying rice paddies, defiling sacred halls—drove Amaterasu into hiding and earned him banishment. Yet after his exile, Susanoo became a hero, slaying the eight-headed dragon Yamata no Orochi to save a princess.
From Orochi's tail, he discovered the legendary sword Kusanagi, which he presented to Amaterasu as reconciliation. Susanoo represents the duality of storm: destructive yet also bringing life-giving rain, chaotic yet capable of great heroism.
✦ Famous Story
Susanoo found an elderly couple weeping because Orochi had devoured seven of their daughters and would soon take the eighth. He had them brew eight vats of sake, which the dragon drank from all eight heads. While Orochi slept drunk, Susanoo slew it and won the princess's hand.
