About

Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, known as the Destroyer in the Hindu trinity (Trimurti). Yet his destruction is not evil—it is the necessary clearing away that allows for new creation. He is the cosmic dancer whose Tandava dance creates and destroys universes.

Often depicted with a third eye that can destroy worlds when opened, blue-throated from drinking cosmic poison to save creation, and seated in meditation on Mount Kailash, Shiva embodies both the ascetic and the householder, destruction and creation, fierce warrior and gentle husband.

He is the patron of yoga and meditation, the lord of animals, and the beloved spouse of Parvati. His symbols include the trident (trishul), the drum (damaru), and the sacred river Ganges flowing from his hair.

Famous Story

When the gods churned the cosmic ocean, a deadly poison emerged threatening all creation. Shiva drank the poison to save the universe, and Parvati pressed his throat to prevent him from swallowing it completely, turning his throat eternally blue.

If You Match

Your features carry the profound duality of Shiva. There is both destruction and creation in your gaze—the look of one who understands that endings are necessary for new beginnings.
