About

Brahma is the Creator in the Hindu trinity, responsible for creating the universe and all living beings within it. He emerged from a lotus growing from Vishnu's navel and began the work of creation.

Depicted with four heads looking in all four directions, symbolizing his awareness of the entire universe, Brahma holds the Vedas (sacred scriptures), a water pot, a rosary, and sometimes a lotus. His vehicle is the swan (hamsa), representing discernment.

Though the Creator, Brahma is less commonly worshipped than Vishnu or Shiva, as creation is a completed act while preservation and transformation are ongoing. He represents knowledge, the creative force, and the beginning of all things.

Famous Story

When Brahma first created, he was alone. To continue creation, he split himself into male and female, creating the first woman Saraswati. From their union came all living beings. This is why Saraswati is both his creation and his consort.
