About

Oda Nobunaga was the first of Japan's three great unifiers, who began the process of ending the Warring States period and unifying Japan. Ruthless, innovative, and brilliant, he earned the title "Demon King of the Sixth Heaven" from his enemies.

Nobunaga revolutionized Japanese warfare by using firearms (newly introduced from Portugal), professional armies instead of seasonal farmers, and meritocracy over hereditary rank. He destroyed powerful Buddhist military temples and challenged all traditional authority.

Though assassinated before completing unification, Nobunaga's work was continued by his generals Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. His motto "Tenka Fubu" (All Under Heaven By Force) embodied his vision of a unified Japan achieved through any means necessary.

Famous Story

At the Battle of Okehazama, Nobunaga faced Imagawa Yoshimoto's army of 25,000 with only 3,000 men. Rather than fight defensively, he launched a surprise attack during a thunderstorm, killing Yoshimoto and scattering his army—turning an impossible situation into legendary victory.
