Veles

Veles is the Slavic god of the underworld, earth, water, and cattle. Where Perun ruled the sky, Veles governed everything below—the souls of the dead, the riches of the earth, and the mysterious forces of magic and prophecy.

Despite being Perun's eternal adversary, Veles was not an evil god but represented the necessary opposite to heavenly order. He was the patron of musicians, merchants, and wizards. Oaths of trade and commerce were sworn by Veles, for he knew the secrets hidden in the earth.

Veles was depicted as a serpent or dragon, sometimes as a bear, dwelling in the roots of the World Tree that Perun's eagles guarded above. His domain included the ancestors, making him essential to Slavic ancestor worship and the connection between the living and dead.
