About

Romulus is the legendary founder and first king of Rome, who with his twin brother Remus was raised by a she-wolf after being abandoned as infants. The sons of Mars and the Vestal Virgin Rhea Silvia, they were destined for greatness from birth.

After a dispute over where to found their city, Romulus killed Remus and established Rome on the Palatine Hill on April 21, 753 BCE. He became its first king, creating the Roman Senate, the legions, and many institutions that would define Roman civilization for a millennium.

At the end of his reign, Romulus was said to have ascended to heaven in a storm, becoming the god Quirinus. He represented the ideal of the warrior-king who builds civilization through strength and wisdom.
