Merlin is the legendary wizard of Arthurian legend, perhaps the most famous sorcerer in Western literature. Said to be born of a mortal woman and an otherworldly spirit, he possessed prophetic abilities and powers over nature, time, and transformation.
He orchestrated the rise of King Arthur—from engineering Arthur's birth through Uther's deception, to placing the sword in the stone, to guiding the young king's early reign. Merlin built Stonehenge, created the Round Table, and foresaw both the glory and fall of Camelot.
His wisdom was legendary but could not protect him from love. The Lady of the Lake (or Nimue) learned his secrets and used them to trap him forever in a cave, a crystal prison, or beneath a stone—his power turned against him by the one he loved.

Merlin foresaw his own imprisonment but could not prevent it. When Nimue asked him to teach her to create an unbreakable prison, he knew she would use it against him—yet loved her too much to refuse. He willingly walked into his eternal trap.
