Immortal Scholarly Sword-wielding Testing Helping

About

Lü Dongbin is the most celebrated of the Eight Immortals, a scholar who achieved immortality through Taoist cultivation. He carries a magical sword that he uses to vanquish evil spirits and a fly-whisk that symbolizes his ability to fly through the air.

His path to immortality came through ten tests of character, each designed to prove his virtue. After passing, he became a wandering immortal who helps the worthy and punishes the wicked, often in disguise.

Lü Dongbin represents the Taoist path to transcendence, the scholarly warrior who masters both sword and scripture, and the immortal who remains engaged with the mortal world.

Famous Story

Lü Dongbin was tested ten times before achieving immortality. In one test, a beautiful woman tried to seduce him; in another, he was offered great wealth. In each case, he remained true to virtue. Finally deemed worthy, he achieved transcendence and joined the Immortals.
