About

Juno is the queen of the Roman gods and goddess of marriage, childbirth, and women. Wife of Jupiter, she was one of the most important deities in Roman religion, with temples and festivals dedicated to her protection of Roman women and the Roman state.

The month of June is named after Juno, and it remains the most popular month for weddings—a tradition dating back to Roman times when brides sought Juno's blessing. She was also Juno Moneta, protector of finances, whose temple housed Rome's mint.

Juno embodied the Roman ideal of the dignified matron—powerful, protective, and devoted to family and state. Her sacred animals were the peacock and goose, and she was often depicted with a diadem and scepter.

Famous Story

Every year on the Matronalia, Roman women would receive gifts and pray to Juno for happy marriages and healthy children. Temples would be filled with offerings as the goddess blessed the sacred institution of Roman marriage.
