Preparing Humble Bold Wilderness Decreasing

About

John the Baptist was the prophet sent to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. Living in the wilderness, clothed in camel's hair and eating locusts and honey, he called all Israel to repentance and baptized them in the Jordan River.

When Jesus came to be baptized, John recognized him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Though he was the greatest prophet, John declared himself unworthy to untie Jesus' sandals and said, 'He must increase, but I must decrease.'

John represents the prophetic voice that prepares hearts for God's coming, the humility that points away from self toward the greater One, and the courage that speaks truth to power regardless of consequences.

Famous Story

When Herodias wanted John dead for condemning her marriage to Herod, her daughter Salome danced for the king and asked for John's head. Herod, though he feared John, granted her request. John died faithful to his calling to speak truth.
