Heroic Skilled Saving Tragic Abandoned

About

Houyi is the legendary archer who saved the world by shooting down nine of the ten suns that once scorched the earth. When all ten suns rose together, burning the world and killing crops, Houyi took his divine bow and shot them down one by one, leaving only one sun to light the sky.

His skill was unmatched—he could shoot a sparrow through the eye from a thousand paces. Yet his greatest tragedy was losing his wife Chang'e to the moon after she consumed their shared elixir of immortality.

Houyi represents heroic action in crisis, the burden of being savior and abandoned husband, and the bittersweet nature of heroism's rewards.

Famous Story

When the ten suns rose together, even the immortals could not approach them. Houyi climbed the highest mountain and drew his bow. With nine shots, nine suns fell. The world was saved, but Houyi was exiled from heaven for killing the Sun Emperor's sons.
