"King of Uruk, Seeker of Immortality"
✦ Personality Traits
✦ About
Gilgamesh is the legendary king of Uruk from the world's oldest written epic. Two-thirds god and one-third human, he was the mightiest of all kings—but also the most tyrannical, until the gods sent Enkidu to humble him and become his beloved companion.
Together, Gilgamesh and Enkidu slew the demon Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven. But when Enkidu died as punishment for their deeds, Gilgamesh was consumed with grief and terror of death. He journeyed to the ends of the earth seeking immortality, finding the secret—only to lose it to a serpent.
His story, written 4,000 years ago, explores themes that remain timeless: friendship, mortality, the search for meaning, and acceptance of human limits. He returned home to find his immortality not in eternal life but in the walls of Uruk and the civilization he built.
✦ Famous Story
After finding the plant of immortality at the bottom of the sea, Gilgamesh stopped to bathe. A serpent smelled the plant's fragrance and stole it, shedding its skin and gaining eternal youth. Gilgamesh wept—but finally understood that his true legacy was the great city he would leave behind.
